We were born in 1725, wrapped in a secret

In the Genal valley, at the heart of the Serranía de Ronda, the Royal Tinplate Factory of San Miguel was built. Three things set it in motion: the secret of making tinplate, one of the best guarded of its time; the will to run a complex industrial plant, with the first blast furnace in Spain; and the adventurous calling of the ships that were widening the world, their hulls protected by our tinplate.

Almost three centuries of loss and neglect followed. The factory has been brought back with patience and conviction, and has recovered its splendour: the Room of Secrets and its mysteries, the blast furnace that emerged intact, and the chapel, open once again to every voice and culture.

It has been awarded for its restoration and listed as a Historic Industrial Monument and Site of Cultural Interest.

The southernmost Pinot Noir in Europe

The winery occupies the main hall of the old rolling works, on the banks of the river Genal, close to the Sierra de las Nieves National Park. Alongside the southernmost Pinot grow two native Andalusian varieties: Moscatel Morisco, which we turn into a white full of nuance, and Tintilla, for a red of great character. Garnacha brings harmony to the meeting of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic.

We also take in grapes from neighbouring estates we tend as our own, which bring us their best Cabernet, the singular Petit Verdot that has developed new notes in Andalusia, and other varieties we enjoy experimenting with.

In the barrels, in the shade of a century old walnut tree that shelters and cools the cellar, the wine grows and evolves. Each vineyard and each variety dictates how long it should stay there.

We look after the making

Organic and natural

No chemical fertiliser in the vineyard and no added sulphites in the cellar.

Our own energy

Solar, wind and hydro, all produced on the estate itself.

Screen printed bottle

Lighter, and with no paper label: the name is printed straight onto the glass.

Cork and wax

Wax capsules instead of plastic, on every bottle.

Wines with character

We work a small crop in detail to make honest estate wine, made to be enjoyed, in which the character of this land shows. We are after complex wines that hold power, elegance and softness together, and that keep the mark of their soil, their climate and their variety.
